The Peene Family

This section showcases submissions from readers of our site. There are many descendants of prominent Victorian era families who have expressed an interest to showcase some of their prized family photos. As submissions come we will be happy to include them in this special section.

Our first major submission is from Mr. Glenn Borghoff, the Great Great Grandson of  Joseph and Caroline Garrison Peene. Joseph and Caroline built a home at 150 Warburton Ave in 1870 and it stands to this day although it was sold out of their family around 1918. If you lived in Yonkers at the turn of the last century, the Peene name would have been known by every one of its citizens. Please continue reading and you will see why......

The prominent Peene Family dominated river transportation in Yonkers for four generations. One family member was one of Yonkers Mayors. The article below was from Old Home Week (The Hudson Fulton Celebration) in 1909. Click on the article to greatly enlarge.
